According to the Global Peace Report 2022, Slovenia is among the safest countries in the world, ranking 7th on the list in this regard. You will feel safe wherever you go. The possibility of you becoming a victim of crime is very small. Nevertheless, not all criminal acts can be prevented. It is therefore good practice to know where to look for help if an unfortunate situation arises.
Despite the high levels of safety and security, you act responsibly and ensure you travel safely. Here are some tips on how to protect yourselves and your belongings from thieves.
When you are in the forest or by the water, you should watch out for ticks. We recommend that you provide yourself with appropriate repellents and, when you get back from the forest, check yourself thoroughly and remove any possible ticks early enough. In the summer, mosquitoes can also be a great nuisance near water surfaces.
In Slovenia, you can drink tap water, since it is pristine. Tap water is often served to you even at the catering establishments, when you, for example, order a cup of coffee, with wine, food and similar. On warm and hot days, there are also public drinking fountains with natural drinking water available in many Slovenian towns.
In Slovenia, smoking is banned in all closed public and work premises, i.e. also in the catering and accommodation establishments. You must be at least 18 years old to buy tobacco products. This makes Slovenia one of the European countries with the most stringent restrictions on smoking.
In Slovenia, the way to a person's heart is through their stomach. Love tastes like dishes from no less than 24 gastronomic areas and three wine-growing areas. Local mineral waters have also always been served on Slovenian tables, and recently beers from local Slovenian microbreweries have also attracted interest. The tastes of Slovenia are different in the Alps than they are on the Adriatic coast, they are different in the Karst Region than they are in the Pannonian Plan, yet each region also has its own distinct gastronomic areas. Slovenia has no less than 170 typical dishes! The major characteristic they have in common is that they are made from locally produced ingredients. Inhabitants of other continents will also need to have appropriate adapters to use their electrical appliances in Slovenia.
Due to the numerous models of sockets, it is easiest for you if you bring your own adapter with you. Otherwise, you can obtain the adapters for most other European plugs and American plugs from the specialist electrical shops.
